La Zagaleta, Benahavís, a lush and exclusive estate where golf and stunning views are king
If you take the climbing road to Ronda from the N340 at San Pedro, you will shortly get to La Zagaleta, one of the most celebrated luxury residential estates in the Marbella region (in fact La Zagaleta is in the municipality of Benahavis) and in the whole of Andalusia and Spain.
The success of the estate was guaranteed since its construction 18 years ago. To start, it features two exclusive 18-hole golf courses renowned for their exceptional integration into the natural surroundings. The older course, La Zagaleta Golf, was built in the early nineties and designed by Bradford Benz. It is 6,000 meters long and bordered with some of the area’s most stunning and exclusive villas. The newest course is Los Barrancos de la Zagaleta, a 5,400 meters long architectural feat built from a Gaunt and Marnoch design on rugged terrain, as its Spanish name (“hilly area”) indicates. While there are still plots available in the Los Barrancos area, a strict limit on construction will ensure that the area will retain its exclusivity and natural beauty in the future.
The key selling points for those deciding to either buy or rent property in La Zagaleta are views (Gibraltar and Morocco are clearly visible most days), privacy, luxury, security (the estate is gated and has a 24 hour guard service), facilities (see below) and convenience; La Zagaleta is the only gated community which offers these services and yet is only a short drive from Marbella and Puerto Banus.
Apart from the golf course, amenities abound on La Zagaleta’s 900 hectares, so that in theory it is not necessary to leave the resort. These include a 24-hours manned surveillance, sporting facilities other than golf including an equestrian centre and tennis, a heliport, pro-shops and restaurants at the golf clubhouses, and on-site services such as gardening, a cash dispenser, and homecare services.
To these advantages, we can add the proximity of the resort to the A7 motorway affording quick access to Marbella and other spots of interest on the Costa del Sol as well as to any Andalusian destination.
